My best friend is having a baby!
I'm so excited for my bestie Lauren and her husband Mike, who are expecting a bundle of joy this December. This past weekend, they included their friends and family in on the fun of finding out whether they're having a boy or a girl at their gender reveal party. I brought my camera along to document the festivities. The beautiful cake was sitting on the dining room table throughout the party, tantalizing everyone with the secret it held inside. Until the parents-t0-be cut into it, only the sonogram tech and the baker knew whether the layers inside would be blue or pink....

This past weekend, they included their friends and family in on the fun of finding out whether they're having a boy or a girl at their gender reveal party. I brought my camera along to document the festivities. The beautiful cake was sitting on the dining room table throughout the party, tantalizing everyone with the secret it held inside. Until the parents-t0-be cut into it, only the sonogram tech and the baker knew whether the layers inside would be blue or pink....
When guests entered the party, they cast their votes on the scoreboard for what they thought the baby would be. I took a long hard look at Lauren's belly..........and turns out I have neither psychic capabilities nor x-ray vision so I was pretty much drawing a blank. I decided to go with what I hoped the baby would be: a girl, because it meant I could buy her adorable little dresses and headbands. Also, the little pink tutu pin I got as a result matched my shirt better ;)
By the time it was ready for the big event, the votes were pretty much split down the middle. I believe the final count was 11 for boy and 12 for girl.

Angela's House is an organization that assists families of children with severe disabilities or conditions that require a lot of medical attention or equipment to survive. This amazing organization was started by Bob and Angie Policastro, whose daughter Angela was one such child. Their experience getting Angela the care she needed revealed to them the gaps in the system that could have provided them with support and resources to improve Angela's life, and theirs. They started Angela's House to make sure families going through similar issues would have an advocate on their side. Since 1992, they have been coordinating services for these families to get medically frail children the help they need, both at home and at residential facilities.
The work they do is incredibly inspiring. I've donated a basket with a free photo session and a $100 print credit for them to raffle off at their Rock and Roll Barbecue fundraiser this Sunday at 89 North in Patchogue. I've also seen some of the other fantastic raffle baskets they've collected and I can tell you there will be something there for everyone. I hope their fundraiser is so successful, because the work they do is so important for the families in this community. I'm really excited to be involved. This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of photographing LI-DOG's Pints-n-Paws Luau. It was so much fun being around like-minded people (AKA crazy dog lovers like myself). I'm really thankful to the organizers, especially Ginny and Irene, for having me. Off Key Tikki in Patchogue was an absolutely beautiful venue and I'm definitely going to be back some day soon for the delicious food and the fantastic view. I also can't wait to photograph the handsome Romeo, whose mom Joyce won the raffle basket I donated.

I've got some fun news. This weekend, on Sunday, June 12th, I'll be attending the Pints-n-Paws Luau at Off Key Tiki in Patchogue hosted by LI-DOG. LI-DOG is a group of Long Island dog owners that advocate for more access for dogs at parks and beaches. Who doesn't want to see more furry faces out and about? There will be music, raffles, contests and food, and your canine companion is welcome to attend. Admission is $15 in advance or $20 at the door and includes complimentary BBQ, a free raffle ticket and more. I'll be donating a basket to the raffle, including a free photo session and a $100 print credit toward purchases. I'm also excited that the coordinators have asked me to shoot the event! I can't wait to photograph so many pups in one place. Learn more and buy tickets here.

Last week I had the privilege to shoot the Arts Academy Masquerade Gala Fundraiser for the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. Let me tell you, this wasn't just any old Halloween party, either. The detail and the thought that everyone put into their costumes was fantastic. The event was held at the Sea Star Ballroom in Riverhead, which is a part of the Long Island Aquarium (formerly Atlantis Marine World), so guests were able to go into the aquarium during the party. Let me tell you, it's not often when I'm covering an event that someone says "Would you like to go shoot the sea lion show?" Heck yeah, I would.
It was really such a pleasure to do this event. I saw a show at WHBPAC last month and they do amazing work. I highly recommend paying them a visit, or looking into their Arts Academy for your children. They have classes and camps if your kids take an interest in the performing arts. I was in the drama and art camp at Stony Brook School Summer Programs when I was a kid, so I know how amazing an experience that can be for a child. That's why I donated a family photo session to their fundraiser. It's so important to support the arts!
