My nephew Seth has arrived! After waiting so long for this moment to come, he decided to make his appearance a few weeks earlier than we had anticipated. We're all so happy that he's here. Mom and baby are perfectly healthy and doing great! I can't wait for him to come home, so I can photograph his newborn session! But of course, I had to take about a million photos at the hospital.
If you don't know, a Fresh 48 is a photo session that takes place in the hospital within the first 2 days of a baby's life. This is to document the very special moments just after baby's arrival without actually being in the delivery room. I don't specialize in these types of sessions, but since Seth is my sister Lisa's first baby, I had to document every moment I could. Harsh hospital light is definitely a challenge, so I have a whole new respect for the talented photographers who specialize in this area!
OK, let's get to the good stuff.

Seth is the absolute picture of my sister Lisa when she was born. Everyone who sees him says he looks exactly like her. It's so wonderful to see how happy she and my brother in law Will are to welcome their son. Seth is my mom's first grandchild and my grandmother's first great-grandchild, so this is an incredibly special moment for our family. He is going to be so fiercely loved. Say hello to little Leyla! I had the pleasure of meeting her and her older sister Kaira when I photographed their family portraits and then her newborn photos last month. I’ve known her parents for several years, because they worked at the physical therapy office my sister and I went to years ago. They were just dating when we went there, so it’s really sweet to see that they’re now married with two adorable kiddos!
This session was photographed in their home. It was so great to be able to catch up with them and meet Kaira and Leyla! Kaira was so sweet with her new baby sister. I can tell they're going to be the best of friends. I know from experience that having a sister so close in age means that you're always going to have a play mate and a confidant in your life at all times. Here are my favorite photos from the session!

I’m so excited to announce that I installed a display of my photography in the gallery hall at Islip Public Library! I have fifteen pieces in the gallery and they’ll be up for the whole month of May, leading up to the 2nd pet portrait program I’m doing on June 9th on their garden terrace. I’ve put in a selection of both my newborn and pet photographs. It was very hard narrowing down many years of photos to the work I’m the most proud of. I’m working on getting my artwork into more galleries, though, so I hope I’ll be able to use more of my favorite photos later on!

Lovely Lilly was a little more than a month old during her first photo session, so she was a bit more alert than a lot of the babies I photograph. I’m not used to seeing open eyes during my sessions, but hers were so pretty, it was a nice change of pace! She was very good at looking at the camera too, which was pleasantly surprising to me.
Even though she was awake, she was a very happy baby throughout the whole session! She didn’t even mind being wrapped up in a scratchy flag during some special photos with her dad, who is a firefighter EMT. Shockingly, she actually nodded off a little bit when we put her into his helmet, which was probably the most uncomfortable set up we did that whole day!

Big brother Dominic was so loving and sweet with his new baby brother Evan. He was so excited to be in photos with him. Most big brothers would have been begging to get these photos over with so they could take of their itchy sweaters, but Dominic was in no rush. He kept asking to jump in for more photos with his baby brother and I was happy to oblige. You can really tell that these two are going to be best friends for life.
Evan was also one of the sleepiest babies I’ve encountered so far. There was no crying, no diaper changes, no feeding breaks necessary. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t even see his eyes open until his mom brought him back for their viewing session. That’s my kind of kid :)

You might remember the first part of Vincent and Louis' newborn photos that I took in studio. We met at their home a few days after that session for some photos with the whole family, which was a lot of fun. It was a session full of a lot of firsts for me! Their dad Mike is big into cars, and so his other baby was featured in a lot of the photos (his other baby is a Camaro). We even put the twins into a big ol' set of tires. It was something else, for sure.
Please note that the twins were comfortable and safe throughout the session, with their parents either holding onto them or within arms' length at all times. I say that because I don't want other newer photographers to look at these edited final products and think it's ok to throw a baby on a car willy nilly without safety measures involved. Safety always comes first! OK, onto the fun stuff. Enjoy these photos of Vincent and Louis, gearheads in training.

So if you've been reading my blog for a while, you've seen every step of the way leading up to Vincent and Louis' newborn photos. I shot the gender reveal party, the baby shower and not one, but two different maternity sessions before they arrived! AND GUESS WHAT! We're not even done yet, because we did two different newborn sessions too, one in studio and one at their home! Look forward to that in the next few weeks. I also foresee a lot of Vincent and Louis in my future, and I'm totally cool with it.
They were an absolute joy to photograph. These brothers slept like champs and didn't mind being posed all over each other. That might have to do with the 9 months they spent in really close quarters recently :)
Since twins aren't as common as a single baby, this was an exciting session for me to shoot. They tend to be very special because you can so easily see the intense connection between them, like in the photo below of the boys' hands. This was also the first time I got to use the vintage doll bed I got at Barntique Village in Moriches, which I fixed up and cleaned recently. That was really satisfying for the DIY crafter in me. I think I'm going to be using that prop a lot in the future!

People tend to use their newborn photos on birth announcement cards, but they can do double duty if you include them on your baptism invitations too! Close up photographs work well, and also photos with white or light headbands or wraps. Addison's parents chose their favorite photo, a black and white close up, and a color photo with a light pink color scheme. It works well with the light floral border they chose, which is perfect for Addison's late April christening.
I have several baptism invitation templates for my clients to choose from. Unlike most of the big stationery companies, my card designs are completely customizable. Clients can opt to make changes to any aspect of the design, such as photo orientation, text, colors, etc.
For example, Addison's parents liked the template they chose, but it didn't have a cross on it. I was able to add a cross and rework the design so it fit in seamlessly, and they loved the final product.
Below on the left are some of the christening invitations that I currently offer.
On the right is the final design of Addison's cards with the changes made.
I'm so happy I was able to help them create the perfect invitation for Addison's special day.

Canvases are my favorite way to showcase artwork on the wall. The way it pops out from the surface just makes it feel a little more impressive than a regular print. I offer options to frame these canvases, but I also like the look of them bare, which is what you see here. There are three ways to customize the outside wrapped edge of the image: with white, with black or with the outer edges of your image wrapping around. That last option requires a photo with a good amount of space around the subject of the photograph. My samples show a white edge wrap, which I think matches the light and airy feel of the room. This is the edge option that is most popular with my clients. All canvases are finished with sawtooth hangers on the back and bumpers to keep your wall protected.
The professional print lab that I order my products from uses museum-quality, archival papers and inks to ensure that my clients' prints will last generations. I'm proud to say that all the products I offer are hand-crafted in the US with recycled paper in a facility with solar power.

I've been looking forward to taking Addison's newborn photos for quite a long time. I photographed her parents' gender reveal party and her mom's baby shower, so her visit to the studio for newborn photos was long-anticipated for me. She didn't disappoint. It took a few minutes to get her sleepy, but once she was soundly snoozing, she let us pose her in a veritable plethora of wraps, outfits and headbands. This little December baby even let me stick her into a Santa hat. And she waited until the very end of the session to pee on me! That's my kind of baby! Here are some of my favorite photos from little Addison's adorable newborn session.
