I could tell Dominick's mom Christine was so so excited to meet her baby boy when she got in touch with me last summer. Because she wanted their two dogs, Jax and Paisley, to be involved with the shoot, we decided to do an in-home session so the dogs would feel nice and comfortable on their home turf. Dominick was born at the end of October, so we scheduled our session for early November so that he'd be all sleepy and flexible for his photos.
On the day of our session, I let Jax and Paisley get used to me while I set up my equipment. This step is pretty important with dogs because they need a few minutes to smell me and make sure I'm not a threat to their parents before they settle down. Once they decided I was not a murderer, they flopped on the couch and I was able to take a few photos of them on their own while their human family got ready for their close up. This is another important step with dogs, because I can make sure my lights aren't bothering them. Most dogs don't mind them, but I've come across one or two that are scared of them. This also makes sure I can deliver some solo photos of each pup. Since I'm a pet photographer, I want to make sure that everyone has a great individual portrait of their dog, so I like to provide those, even if the main objective of the shoot is to get a group shot of the family.
The dogs were so good for their family photo, they just chilled on the couch with their parents and new brother and they were happy to look my way occasionally. After some family photos on the couch, mom Christine and dad Anthony wanted me to head into their basement for a few photos in front of their amazing vintage jukebox. Anthony is a huge fan of vintage stuff, especially the '50s, so that was an important shot for him. After that, we headed into Dominick's Mickey Mouse themed nursery for a few more family shots and individuals of the man of the hour. He did such an amazing job! He wasn't super sleepy for a good part of the session, but he had no trouble looking my way and he barely cried! Such an easygoing little guy!
Dominick's parents are serious about Christmas. It was early November during our session, but they were already fully decked for Christmas. Anthony collects amazing vintage Christmas lawn decorations and they were stationed outside the house like a small army, it was so impressive! It even got them featured in the newspaper! That's why we had to make sure to do some fun holiday shots. They had an adorable Santa outfit they wanted to use, and I supplied a reindeer one that looked perfect on Dominick. His parents also wanted to take a few shots of Dominick along with photos of some beloved family members who are no longer with us, like Anthony's grandma and Christine's mom. I thought that was such a touching tribute and I was honored to help capture those special photos for them.
After we were all done in the nursery, the dogs were begging to be let in because they were feeling left out of the fun. I made sure to get in position before they came in, so I could sneak a cute photo of them sniffing at the crib to check on their baby brother. I love how that one turned out.

I'm so excited to be heading back to the Barkfield Road pet boutique for a second Valentine's Day event. This is a pared down version of our Christmas mini session event. The sessions are very quick, just 15 minute appointments to get a few great shots of your pup with our Valentine's day setup. The event will be at Barkfield Road in East Northport on Sunday, January 26th from 11am-3pm. On offer will be photo prints in sizes from 4x6 to 8x10, metal ornaments in 2 Valentine's Day styles, and image cubes! The session fee is $25, but that will be waived with purchases over $25.
As always, this event will benefit the charity called the Dotty McMorrow Sandmann Animal Rescue Fund, AKA the Dotty Fund. The fund provides financial assistance to families struggling with a pet's medical bills. It helps them keep the pet cared for at home, so they don't end up in a shelter if their owner is unable to get them the medical attention they need.

Ashly got in touch with me back in the fall with an interesting idea for a session. She wanted to have a calendar made for her mother featuring her mom’s puppy Archie. She wanted photos for each month with Archie posing among seasonal props. Since I’ve done just about every type of holiday photo I can think of and I’m kind of a pack rat, I had just about everything we needed right there in my studio closet. Ashly also had a few props in mind she wanted to bring too, so we were off to the races.
Being a Dane/Pit mix, Archie was only 8 months old when we had our session and he was already 60 lbs! That kind of young age mixed with such a giant body could have been a disaster for a photo session, but Archie was so well-behaved! He had a lot of energy like all dogs do, but I was so impressed at his sit and stay skills for such a young pup. He never had a problem looking my way when I squeaked a toy. He tolerated really well all the things we put on his head or around his neck. He was a little baffled by the Cupid wings we put on him for his Valentine’s Day photo, but he still left them on long enough to get a great shot!
When I dropped off Ashly’s products to her, she was so excited about giving her mom the calendar she made for her. I’m sure she loved it, because it was such a thoughtful gift. I always love when people give the gift of photography because I think it makes it that much more special. I’m sure Ashly’s mom will enjoy the calendar all year long and the photos of her Archie forever.

I was back at the pet boutique Barkfield Road for pet holiday mini sessions this year! Go visit this wonderful pet store if you’re in East Northport. The owner Carol does the most amazingly decorated dog treats, I’m in awe every time I go there and see them. She even has doggy cakes for birthday and gotcha days, dog cannolis, and so much more. My dog Gracey loves it every time we go in there, because she knows she’s about to get spoiled.

This was my fourth year doing a pet portrait program at the Middle Country Public Library. Every year we’ve put on this program it’s gotten bigger and bigger. This year I photographed 50 pets in 2 hours and had so much fun. We decided to go back to a fall theme, like we did the first year. It was so good to see so many families who’ve come to the program year after year, and to meet a lot of new families too. Some of the dogs that came in were tiny puppies the last time I saw them!
I love being surrounded by animals so these programs are always a really good time. After patrons were done being photographed by me, they went over to the green screen area to get a snapshot done by the library with a digital background of their choice. Due to a battery issue, there was a bit of a line there so I got even more time to hang out with the pups when I was all caught up taking portraits!

Fall is my favorite season and Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I pretty much smile the entire month of October. Seeing the leaves change, going to fall festivals, decorating the porch with a ton of autumn decor, and planning out costumes is just so much fun for me. My fall porch is something I take a lot of pride in, so last year I took photos of Seth, Gracey and Ash out there.
This year, I had a fall set up in the studio for a few sessions, and if you follow my Instagram, you’ll probably have seen my stories about how incredibly messy the bales of hay were! I took some photos of Seth up there, and then we moved out to the porch, taking those messy hay bales with us! Gracey joined us at the end too!

Then a few days later, I took Gracey up in the studio for her close up in her Halloween costume! Again, if you follow my Instagram (or if you know just how crazy I am), it won’t be a surprise to you that I bought a little something to match her while we go trick or treating with Seth and for handing out Halloween candy!
Here is Seth in his actual Halloween costume as an Ewok from Star Wars. It was so hilarious watching him walk around with the oversized belly, he looked like a big teddy bear. It was so sweet. I love this little boy so much.

It was so great to come back to the Islip Public Library for a third year in a row for a pet portrait program on their beautiful terrace. It was pretty sunny and warm that day, so I moved the pets around to keep them comfortable in the shade throughout the program. It was good to see some repeat patrons come back for another photo, and we also had plenty of newbies who came to get a portrait of their fur babies.
Thanks to everyone who came out, to the library for having me, and especially to Laurie Aitken for coordinating everything! I love doing these kinds of programs, because I get to see some adorable pets and get to know some really awesome pet lovers here on Long Island.

It helps them keep the pet cared for at home, so that more animals don't end up in shelters when their owners are unable to provide them with medical care.

Wilhelmina is an old friend of mine from college. I hadn't seen her in a long time, so I was so excited when she asked me to photograph her engagement session, because it meant we could catch up! It also meant I could meet her three adorable pups that I always admire on Instagram, and her awesome fiance Patrick. Patrick is from Ireland, so Wilhelmina had told me about the issues they were having with getting married here. They even had to push the date back a few times, but thankfully everything got settled and they could focus on planning the wedding of their dreams!
Wilhelmina knew she wanted to get her dogs involved, because they're so so important to them. We started off at their house and did some photos with the pups cuddling on the couches inside!

After that, we moved outside in their backyard to take some photos individually with each dog, giving them all a special little moment with mom and dad. First was Phoenix, a Husky/Shiba Inu/probably some other stuff mix haha! He's so sweet and full of energy and his coat is just gorgeous. He did a great job posing with his parents! Then we brought out Schatzi, a sweet little mush of a pitbull, who was happy to sit and sniff the grass while we did plenty of poses. Then, last but not least, we took shots of Kya, who is Schatzi's sister, and I know I'm overusing this word, but she's also incredibly sweet. They all are! I I wanted to just lay on the floor and snuggle with all three of them, but you know, I had a job to do. I'm a professional :D
After that we headed inside to take a few shots inside Wilhelmina's awesome library that I admire so much. Seriously, she should arrange people's bookcases for a living. She has a gift!
Then, finally, we bid adieu to the dogs to take a few special photos of just the bride and groom to be on the beach where their wedding ceremony was planned. It was an absolutely beautiful way to end off our session!
Wilhelmina and Patrick got married on September 22nd and I was so happy to be there to celebrate this wonderful couple! They had a beautiful intimate reception at Cowfish in Hampton Bays. Congratulations to them both and I hope they have an amazing life together!

I'll be back at the Middle Country Public Library for the fourth year in a row (!!!!) for my pet portrait program! The program will be held on Friday, October 11th from 6pm-8pm.
Make sure your pet is clean, well-behaved around other animals, and on a leash or in a carrier. We've had dog, cats, ferrets and even turtles come to this program, so don't think this is just for the pups. Bring on all the pets, I say!
Like last year, there will be a gorgeous setup where I'll be taking your pet's portrait (and yours if you'd like), and also a green scene portrait station, where someone from the library will take a snapshot of you and insert a digital background for you to take home that day! Your portrait by me will be ready to pick up from the library about a week later.
