I was back at Pawcasso again for Fall and Halloween shoots. I always love doing events there, because it's such a great shop.  Barbara and everyone who works there are such sweet and wonderful people. Please go visit them if you're near Westhampton Beach! Their treats are my dogs' absolute favorite treats of all time. I literally have to keep them on a high shelf because if they're within their reach, they'll break into the bag themselves! Every dog I've met loves them too. Go to their site and pick your pup up a bag!

Barbara threw a whole Bark-BQ event for the pups in town. They had doggy friendly burgers and fries, paw print painting, doggy bandana making, and more. It was such a fun day. She had set up two beautiful backdrops for us to do photos in front of. Here are some of the shots we got, and some candids from this very fun day!

It was great to be back at another Yappy Hour hosted by the wonderful Daniela of Who Lets Your Dog Out. She held a Splash Party for pups outside of Birdie's in Patchogue. Daniela had set up splash pads and kiddie pools and sprinklers for the pups to cool off in. One Love Dog Rescue was there with some adorable adoptable dogs. Barking Biscuit was also there with their truck selling treats, toys and clothes for the dogs. The dogs had a wonderful time in the water, and it was really fun to watch them enjoy themselves. Here are some photos I took of the festivities!

I have another pet portrait program coming up at the Middle Country Public Library on May 31st from 10:30am - 12:30pm. This was originally going to be held at the Centereach building in their Nature Explorium, but due to the iffy weather forecast, it has moved to the Selden building so that we have the option to do either indoor or outdoor photos!

Middle Country patrons can sign up here.

I never got around to posting these photos from last summer's program, so I'm going to share them now! We had another really fun pet portrait program out in the Nature Explorium! Our first day got rained out so we reconvened the week after. We had lots of pups join us. We also had a cat, a bearded dragon, a turtle, and even three chickens come by for a photo! The chickens had a very cool clear backpack they came in so they could be safe while they traveled and still look out on the world. I’ve actually photographed chickens before but it was just one at a time. This was my first time photographing three at once so I thought it would be a little chaotic, but that wasn’t the case at all. These were three very well-behaved chickens! The bearded dragon was also impeccably dressed. We had a lot of very impressive subjects!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the program and to the library for having me back again! Here are some of the shots we got that day!

I'll be back at Comsewogue Public Library in Port Jefferson on Saturday, May 10th from 11am-2pm. We're going to be doing photos out on their lawn! Patrons will get a free 8x10 and digital files emailed to them. Pets should be clean, well-behaved around other animals, and in a cage or on a leash to attend. All pets are welcome, not just dogs! In the past, I've had people bring cats, turtles, ferrets, guinea pigs, lizards, bunnies, hamsters, even rats to my library programs! Feel free to get in the shot with your pet too!

Register for the program here!

Hope to see you there!

River & Hedwig's mom Alicia and I have been following along with each other for a while on Instagram (check out River's adorable pictures @ms.river_theminischnauzer). She got in touch with me to schedule a session for the pups in my studio. She told me she wanted photographs of the dogs in front of nice bright colored backdrops. She was doing the session to surprise her mom with the photos for Mother's Day.

I was able to meet River ahead of time when they brought her to Pawcasso for my St. Patrick's Day photo session event. Alicia and her mom were there but she didn't know about the session yet, so I had to keep my mouth shut and pretend it wasn't happening!

On the day of the session, River and Hedwig got to the studio and started exploring the space. Alicia had told me Hedwig was an anxious pup and it would be best to ignore him at first until he got used to me, so that's exactly what I did. He got a little freaked out whenever I got up to change the backdrops, but every time I was sitting down, he and I were the best of buds! I always ask clients before our session if their dog has any medical issues, anxiety or certain ways they like to be handled to make sure that I'm not doing anything to upset them or make the session something scary for them. I always want pets to have fun getting their photo taken!

River and Hedwig both did such an amazing job. Alicia was unsure if Hedwig would cooperate, but I'm happy to report we got so many excellent shots of him! They both really enjoyed sitting on the grey dog sofa I keep in the studio. That's everyone's favorite chair, it seems. After the session, we put together a beautiful collage canvas and other prints for Alicia and her mom, and she loved the way they came out!

Here are some of my favorite shots from that day!

Thank you again to Barbara of Pawcasso Art Studio & Pet Boutique for having me back for Easter/Spring photos. Pawcasso makes the most amazing single ingredient treats for dogs. They're my dog's favorite treats ever, and I've never met a dog yet that doesn't like them! Get your pup some at www.pawcassotreats.com and stop in if you're near Westhampton Beach!

We had some seriously adorable dogs join us for the event. One of the pups, an incredibly sweet 3,5 month old pit bull puppy named Wisteria, was being fostered at the time. I'm happy to report that her foster mom Lauren told me this week that the photos helped get her adopted and into her forever home! Congrats Wisteria!

Here are some of my favorite shots we got that day!
Happy Easter, everyone!

I was happy to add another library to my list of pet portrait programs last year! I did my first one at the Comsewogue Public Library and never got around to posting them here! We did our program out on their large lawn. We had a lot of adorable pups join us! It’s always so much fun to meet new dog lovers and hear about how much they love their pets. A lot of times these programs are the first time that people have ever had a professional photo taken of their animal and it’s always really great to be able to give them a new experience. I heard stories that day about recent losses in patrons’ families, house fires where they lost so much, and it really underlined how important photography is. It’s an honor to be able to contribute to happy memories for so many people. Thank you so much to the library for having me and to everyone who brought their pet for a photo!

I'll be back at Comsewogue on 5.10.25!
Register here for that!

I was so excited when Prince's dad Sunil got in touch with me to talk about photographing his 14th birthday party. Prince is a beautiful German Shepherd who had a pretty rough health scare in January. He's doing so much better and his family is so grateful that he's happy and healthy to celebrate his 14th birthday! So many friends and neighbors came to party with their pups.

We set up a white backdrop with a red carpet (Prince's dad Maarten works in movies so he had this on hand for us!) at the entrance of the party, so families could take a photograph with their dogs. There were so many cute pups and I loved following them around to take candid photos of them enjoying their puppy party time.

At the end of the party, they brought out a beautiful doggy cake from Barkfield Road in East Northport, my local small business buddies! The speed in which these dogs devoured that cake was truly impressive. To be fair, it looked so amazing, I kind of wanted to try a piece!

Thank you Sunil and Maarten for trusting me to capture these very special photos of their beloved pup! Here are some of my favorite shots we got that day!

I'm excited to share some fun things that have been happening here at Laura Pea Photography.

First off, I won Best Pet Photographer on Long Island through FourLeaf (formerly Bethpage) Federal Credit Union's Best of Long Island contest. Thank you so much to everyone who nominated me and voted for me! It's such an honor to be nominated so many times, and I was absolutely floored when I saw that I won this year!

I also have some artwork up in two gallery displays right now! I was asked to display 5 of my photographs as part of a rotating display of local photographers at Flux Coffee in Farmingdale. My work is hanging with other talented members of the Long Island Film Club. Every month new artists are featured, so go check that out if you're ever in the area!

I was also accepted to the Long Island Film Club's first group show at the Calling Bell in Huntington! I have one photograph in that show and it'll be on display until May 18th, if you'd like to see it. Many of the works in that show and at the Flux Coffee display are on sale, so go check them out and pick up a piece of local art while you're there!
