Caitlin & Jax's Session

Pet photography is always rewarding. It's so fun to be around pets because they make our lives so much better. Dogs especially have such goofy fun personalities that their presence in our lives is almost always a positive. The only drawback as the quote goes, is their lives are just too short. As a pet photographer, I often have clients coming to me to take their pets’ photos because they’ve gotten a bad diagnosis and they know the time is coming. These sessions can be hard because pet parents are dealing with a lot of difficult emotions, but they’re also incredibly special. It’s an honor to be a part of capturing something so important for my clients.

Many times these photos can be difficult to look at at first. I always tell clients that one day they’ll look at them and smile instead of cry. I know because I’ve been there. The reason I got into pet photography in the first place was because I lost my beloved Basil to cancer in 2016.

I did this very special session for Caitlin and Jax last year after Jax was given a very dire prognosis. The deep bond they shared was so obvious. Jax was Caitlin’s soul dog. Even though poor Jax wasn’t feeling his best, I could see him visibly relax whenever she touched him. All throughout the session, Caitlin told me stories about Jax and how he had changed her life. I’m so grateful I was able to capture these memories for them.

I only met Jax that one day, and the very next day he was gone. No matter how long I know a client’s dog, they always make a profound impression on me. They remind me why I do pet photography and how important the memories are that we make with our pets. The trust that pet parents place in me to document sessions like this is never taken for granted. I appreciate so much the opportunity to help them celebrate and commemorate members of their family that they adore so much. Jax will always be remembered and missed!
