When I received a voicemail from dad-to-be Don inquiring about maternity photos, I was a little surprised. I almost never get to speak to dads until I meet them at the session. Unsurprisingly, moms are usually the ones who call to book me for these type of sessions (actually all types of sessions haha). I could tell Don was really excited to be a dad and he wanted to take care of everything for mom-to-be Talesia, so she could focus on looking spectacular for the photos and growing their beautiful baby girl.
I met Talesia when they arrived at the studio for their session. She was getting very close to the big day, so much so that she even had a Braxton Hicks contraction during the shoot! I was thinking for a minute there that the session was going to take an unexpected turn! But it came and went and even after that, she was eager to do lots of poses and she did them all perfectly. Talesia is wearing one of the dresses I keep in my client closet for expecting moms to choose from during their maternity session. It looked gorgeous on her!
Here are some of my favorite photos from the session!

Avery’s mom Lizzie is one of my oldest friends! I posted her family maternity session a while back (see those photos here!) and I was so excited when I heard Avery had arrived, so I could shoot her newborn session! Just like the maternity session, we made the newborn shoot a family affair!
Big sister Morgan had asked to dress Avery, so she showed up in a special unicorn outfit that perfectly complemented Morgan’s! We took photos with the whole family, with just her sister Morgan and brother Liam, with mom and dad and some of Avery on her own. She did really well sleeping, and even when she woke up at the end, she wasn’t crying so we were able to get some eyes open shots! Here are some of my favorite photos from our session!

It’s been a little bit of a crazy time over here at Laura Pea Photography! I try to dedicate a blog post to most sessions I do, but this V-Day season got away from me. If you follow along on my Instagram (@laurapeaphotography), you’ll have seen all these photos but I decided to do a roundup post of the sessions I did for Valentine’s Day this year for those that follow my blog!
First up is my nephew Seth! This is his first Valentine’s Day and I was so excited to get him in the studio to use some of the props I’ve been accumulating over the years! He’s so used to the click of my camera and the flash of my lights, so he did an amazing job!

Next is Juliette and Owen! I photographed them at two of the pet portrait programs I did at the Islip Public Library and then I was honored to photograph Juliette’s 1st birthday photos! They came back for her 18 month photos to surprise their dad whose birthday is the day before Valentine’s Day. They had so much fun playing around with the props I have in the studio! I love how these came out! Jules has such a brilliant smile and Owen is such a great older brother, who was so happy to pose with his little sister.
Next are my little girl Gracey’s photos! I always take photos of her when I’m figuring out my setups for sessions. She’s always happy to model for me, especially because she knows there are freeze-dried beef liver treats in it for her!
Finally is my cousin Peyton’s Valentine’s Day photos! Peyton’s mom Lori is the reason why I have this very cute little play kitchen. She saw it for sale online and told me about it. I agreed it would be a very cute addition to the studio and picked it up. Peyton was very happy to play with it in exchange for a few beautiful smiles toward the camera!
I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day!

Abigail’s mom and I used to work together at my first job ever, Big Lots! We haven’t seen each other in a few years, so it was a lot of fun to catch up with her and meet her sweet little girl Abigail!
She’s one of the happiest babies I’ve seen in a long time! I didn’t have to break out any of my silly stuff to make her laugh. She had pretty much a permanent smile on her face from the time she got into the studio until it was time for her to leave! She made my job nice and easy!
She liked holding onto the props we had for her, and she was overjoyed to snuggle with her parents for some family shots! Here are some of my favorite photos from our session!

Ah, Christmas time! This is the time of year that I get to see my past clients I’ve shot as babies come back to me! I've been photographing Annie since her first birthday and Charley since she was a newborn. It's so fun to see how these two are growing into these big adorable kids. They have a lot of personality and they remind me a lot of my sister and I when we were kids.
We had a great day running around the park! Little sister Charley loved every opportunity to give her big sister a hug when I asked them to. She would squeeze her as hard as she could and then they would both dissolve into giggles. It was so sweet, and big sister Annie was a great sport about being asked to hug her little sister!

Lizzie’s mom and my mom worked together for many years and were good friends, so my sister and I have been buddies with Lizzie for pretty much our whole lives! We all used to work together at my last job before I started my business, and she’s been a longtime supporter of my photography!
She’s pregnant for the third time so she wanted to commemorate this time with a maternity session with her and her family of four before they become a party of five! Since I’ve shot Morgan and Liam so many times before, so they were old pros at modeling! They gave me great smiles! Here are some of my favorite photos from the session!

Ok, so I'm going to prepare you for something unexpected. There won't be any babies or dogs in this post. I know, that's very unusual for me! But the adorable kids you're going to see do belong to my dog trainer Corinn of Coexisting Canine Dog Training! I felt a little strange to be visiting her back yard without my Gracey in tow to attend her doggy social group, but I had a great time getting to know her kids Sarah, Ethan and Jessica during our session. Even though the dogs weren't in the photos this time, the kids still had fun. At the end of the session they even had a spontaneous tennis ball fight with the abundant amount of them laying around the yard. Here are some of my favorite photos from that day!

When Jennifer contacted me for maternity photos, I was pleasantly surprised when she said she wanted to include her two children in the photos. I find that a good deal of moms get maternity photos done during their first pregnancy and then opt not to do them for their following pregnancies. So many moms have told me that every pregnancy feels different, so I think it’s great to commemorate each one with a photo session. This way, your kids will look back on the photos and see the progression of your family at every stage.
When we got together for photos, I was happy to meet the entire family. We started with photos of mom Jennifer and her oldest child, daughter Adrianna, who was so happy to be getting a new sibling. During this time, dad Rich was waking up their son Isaac who was enjoying a very deep nap at the time. Even though he wasn’t overly pleased to be woken up, he cheered up once he realized the park we were shooting at had a ton of bunnies. The kids had a very good time following them around in between family shots.
You could tell the family had some practice with taking photos, because they posed together naturally and beautifully. I had a great time with them, and I’m looking forward to meeting the newest member of the family very soon! Here are some of my favorite photos from our session!

I first met Juliette’s family when her mom was pregnant with her. Nina brought her son Owen and their family dog Bolt to the first pet portrait program I did with Islip Public Library. Nina and I kept in touch on Instagram and then the second time the program came around, Juliette joined them! By the time I met her, I felt like I knew her because I’d seen so many of her photos! She was just as smiley and happy at the program. When Nina reached out to me to shoot Juliette’s rainbow themed 1st birthday photos, I was so happy. I knew she was going to give me great smiles, and being the aunt to a rainbow baby myself, I was especially honored to capture these special memories.
Big brother Owen was so good posing with his baby sister. He’s had a lot of practice!
Then Dad joined us and we closed out the day with some family shots!
When Mom came in to the studio to see the photos, we did a few more shots of a onesie we didn’t get around to photographing at the park. Juliette is such a pro at smiling! I'm so happy I've been able to get to know this special girl and her family.

My friends Dina and Mike are having a baby! If you've visited the blog before, you might have seen their other babies (the furry kind) Sandy and Jack. The baby coming in October is a human one, though, of the little boy variety! My friends and I are so excited for these two, so we decided to throw her a baby shower to celebrate her and the new little guy we can't wait to meet! I, of course, was happy to photograph the festivities.
Here we go!
Here we go!
We had such a fun day and a very beautiful moment to cap it all off. At the end of the party, when Mike came to pick up Dina and their load of presents, we gave them a very special gift that our crafty friend Lauren had made. Mike's father passed away earlier this year and it was an incredibly tough time for his family. Lauren spoke to Mike's mother the week before the shower and picked up a shirt that had belonged to Mike's dad and made it into a pillow for the new baby.
There was a good deal of eye-drying after that.

I'm so happy for these two. They're going to make amazing parents. I can tell you for a fact that this kid is going to have a lot of laughter in his life, because Dina and Mike are two of the funniest people I know. Keep a look out sometime in October for his newborn session. I can't wait!!
