When I started my business in September of 2014, I threw myself into it with gusto. I tried to dedicate every moment to acquiring and serving clients the best that I could. I wanted to give them the best photos and experience I could. An unexpected side effect of that laser focus was that by May of 2015, I had not taken one photo that wasn’t for a client. I had created no personal work for myself at all. I was afraid that photography was going to stop being my passion and become only my job. Then I read an interview with photographer Nina Kling on clickitupanotch.com. She mentioned a photography project that she was involved with called 52Frames. Every week, a photography challenge is issued around a central theme. Photos submitted have to be taken in that week, not just dug up from your archives. It seemed like the perfect way for me to spark my creativity and create some personal work to keep growing as a photographer. I joined immediately. Since I joined, I have submitted every single week, earning the title of Weekly Warrior a couple times over. I’ve invited friends to the project and I’ve also gone on many photowalks and made new friends within the project. It’s a truly inspiring community of photographers from all over the world, at different ages and skill levels, all working to improve their photography and push the limits of their creativity. I love it so much, I even became a Patreon patron to support the growth of the project. If you’re interested in photography at all, I urge you to join 52Frames. I’m so proud of the work I’ve submitted to the project every week. It keeps me inspired and creative and I’m constantly learning things from my 52Frames pals. I put together this collage of all the photos I submitted in 2017. If you’re really eagle-eyed, you’ll notice there are actually 53 photos in this collage, owing to the fact that there were 53 Sundays, which is the deadline for submitting every week. Following that are a few of my personal favorites from the year’s photos. This is my year in 52, ahem, 53 Frames! Interested in joining 52Frames? Find out how here!
