Fall Festive Pet Portraits at the Middle Country Public Library

9/28/2016

This Saturday, October 1st, I'll be at the Middle Country Public Library in Centereach doing a fall pet portrait program. The library is providing an autumn backdrop and I'll be photographing families and their pets who are registered for the event. The program is open to patrons of the library, in the Middle Country school district. You'll receive a 8x10 print and a digital copy. The library asks that all pets be clean, leashed and good with other animals. There are 11 spots left for the program!
It's from 10am to 12 pm (the time on the flyer has been changed) and there will be also be a parade for kids and their pets the same day in the Nature Explorium.
Register at the library's website.

 Come down and see me!

Stanley, Sadie and Handsome

These three pups are perfectly named. Stanley the beige and white chihuahua is as gentlemanly as his name suggests. Sadie, the black and white chihuahua is a feisty little minx, and the Handsome the big bull mastiff-boxer mix is, well, you get it. What's amazing is they all have such different quirks and personalities, yet they complement each other so well. These three lucky pups are soon going to be getting a new sister to love and protect, because their mommy and daddy are expecting their first (human) baby!
I think they're going to do very well at babysitting :)

Stanley and Sadie are going to be walking with their human friends on September 25th at the Wines and Canines Walk at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard to benefit Kent Animal Shelter. Click here to donate to their fundraiser and be a hero for homeless pets!

Join me at the Wines and Canines Walk for Kent Animal Shelter on 9/25/16!

In 1996, my family went to the Riverhead Fair, a tradition for us every October that continues to this day. The Kent Animal Shelter had a booth there with the most adorable puppy we'd ever seen, fluffy with a big bushy tail and huge paws for his tiny size. They told us several families were interested in him and whoever got to the shelter first the next morning would have the chance to adopt him.
We got there hours before the shelter even opened.
We named him Whiskey. Later on, he grew into those gigantic paws and his trainer identified him as an Irish Wolfhound mix.
He was the prince of our family for 11 years, until we lost him to cancer in 2007.

Kent Animal Shelter was the first place I went to in 2012 when I was looking to adopt a new dog. They didn't have any that were good with cats, so they pointed me to Southampton Animal Shelter, where I found my sweet boy Basil, in whose memory I'll be walking this year. When I heard about their Wines and Canines Walk at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard, I thought it was the perfect way to give back to a place that has given me so much.

That first year and last year, my friends and I were the team that raised the most money for the event. We'd like to try and make this year our best year yet. If you can donate, please click here. You'll be supporting a very worthy cause. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to our fundraiser so far!  If you can't donate, please share the link with fellow animal lovers. Or you can register to walk at the event and start your own fundraising team to help save homeless pets.

The walk is on September 25th from 11am-2pm at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard, and I can tell you, it is so much fun. Walk through the beautiful vineyard, chat with other dog lovers, enjoy contests and vendors, meet adorable adoptable pets and try your luck at the 50-50 raffle and prize auction.

This year, I'll also be donating a basket to the prize auction with a free photography session and a $100 print credit. I'm so excited to help this amazing shelter. I hope to see you there!

Margaretville, NY

I don't post a lot of personal work here, but I had to share a few photos I took recently on a trip to Margaretville, because this town was just too beautiful. My brother-in-law's family has a house there in the Catskills and graciously let us and a few friends spend Labor Day weekend there. Waking up in the morning surrounded by mountains was such an amazing experience. Because the house is  high up on a hill, there's so much less light pollution than there is here on Long Island. At night, you could see so many stars. My budding interest in astrophotography became a full-blown obsession while I was there.
Enjoy!

Oscar and Bruno

With names like Oscar and Bruno, these two have to be dashing gentlemen, right? Well, they are. I've only ever had short-haired cats in my family, so getting to know these long-haired sweethearts was wonderful. Their paws are so furry!

It seems that dogs tend to be professionally photographed a lot more often than cats, and I'd like to see that change. A lot of cat owners think their pets will be too skittish or not look into the camera. This photo shoot is evidence that even nervous cats can get beautiful photos taken of them. The black and white beauty Bruno is a very anxious cat. He tends to hide under furniture when confronted with strangers. Given a little bit of time to adjust to the situation, and the ability to stay in the comfort of his home made Bruno at ease enough to be photographed. A few treats, ribbons and a quick pop into his favorite
hide-out (a Vera Bradley bag) also went a long way :)
The beautiful grey, green-eyed boy Oscar was adopted from Kent Animal Shelter here on Long Island. Kent does amazing work to save the lives of homeless pets and to prevent overpopulation that leads to even more homeless animals crowding shelters. My friends and I are walking this September 25th to benefit Kent Animal Shelter at their Wines and Canines Walk at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard. This will be our 3rd year walking. We've raised about $1,200 for Kent in the past and we'd love to add a lot more to that this year. If you'd like to help out a very worthy cause, click here to be a hero for animals.

If you'd like to schedule a session for your own handsome feline or canine friends,
