St. Patrick's Day Pet Photos at Pawcasso Westhampton Beach 3.2.25

I had such a great time at the Pawcasso Valentine's Day event, and I'm going to be back for another one to celebrate St. Patrick's Day on Sunday, March 2nd! I'll be there from 12-4pm. For $55 you get your pet's photo taken, 3-5 digital files emailed to you, a lick painting, pup ice cream and a goodie bag of stuff from Pawcasso!

I decided to break out my big Halloween cauldron to craft a pot of gold for pups to sit in (or next to if they're as big as Barbara's girl Frida, the Great Dane mix)! I took a few photos of my girl Gracey and my doggy nephew Hopper to show everyone what our setup is going to look like!

Remy's 5th Birthday Studio Session

Remy's mom Drew got in touch with me because she was interested in getting professional photos taken of her adorable bulldog/beagle mix Remy to celebrate his 5th birthday, which is today! Happy Birthday Remy! She told me she just wanted a few good shots of him, but she was unsure how he would do because he's blind and has a ton of energy. She thought he would be too excited if I came to their house because he loves visitors, so she wanted to bring him to my home studio, which is great because we had the full range of backdrops and props to choose from for his session. She and her husband Luke brought so many cute things to use for his photos like balloons, toys, a birthday hat, and even a homemade birthday cake for him to enjoy at the end of the shoot!

We started out on a blue background to match all his adorable accessories. Remy did such an amazing job posing. Even though he's blind, he had no trouble finding the camera because over the years I've built up quite the arsenal of absolutely ridiculous noises I can make to get dogs to look at me! After a while we switched to a light brown backdrop and got mom and dad involved for some family photos! Then it was time for Remy's favorite part of the session, when we brought out the adorable homemade birthday cake his mom baked him. We got some great shots of him happily digging in. I was prepared for there to be a huge mess in the aftermath, but Remy cleaned up after himself like a gentleman! There was barely a crumb left behind!

Photos from the Islip Public Library Holiday Pet Portrait Program on 11.30.24

It was great to be back at the Islip Public Library for another pet portrait program on their outdoor terrace. We did a holiday theme again this year with some props I brought and some that the library had. We had 28 families join us that day with 37 dogs and 2 guinea pigs! It was a packed event and so much fun. Every time I do one of these events, it's clear to me how much Long Islanders love their animals.

Thank you to the library for having me and to all the families who came out and braved the cold for a photo of their pet!

Holiday Photos at Barkfield Road in East Northport on 11.16.24 and 11.17.24

I'll be back at Barkfield Road in East Northport for another round of pet holiday photos! This year we'll be doing two consecutive days, 11/16 and 11/17 from 9:30am-4:30pm. A portion of the proceeds will be going to the Dotty Fund. Book a 30 minute session for $25 (this fee is waived if you purchase more than $25 worth of prints and products from the session). I'll be selling prints, metal ornaments, image cubes and packs of 25 holiday cards.

I'll have multiple different backdrops and props for Winter, Christmas and Hanukkah for people to choose from. Owners can join in the photo with their dog if they'd like! Book your spot by calling Barkfield Road at 631-651-9292!

Photos from Fall/Halloween Photoshoot at Pawcasso Westhampton Beach on 10.13.24

Happy Halloween! I was so happy to have my first photo shoot at Pawcasso Art Studio and Pet Boutique! My dog Gracey has been obsessed with their treats for a long time. I haven't met one dog who doesn't love their single-ingredient treats! Get yours here! It was great to be able to visit their beautiful space, where they hold art classes, Paint Your Pup nights, and all sorts of special events.

I brought two backdrops for this event, a Halloween one and a Fall one and people were able to choose between them. Everyone who attended actually opted to do both and all the pups were cooperative and adorable for their photos!! After they had their photo shoot, Barbara of Pawcasso helped them create a paw print painting, and provided them with delicious doggy ice cream and a goodie bag of toys and treats from the store. It was such a fun day, and I'm excited to announce I'll be back there next weekend (11/9 from 12-4pm) for a holiday photo shoot! I'll be bringing multiple backdrops and winter, Christmas and Hanukkah props for people to choose from.

Photos from LI-Dog's Howl-o-ween Party 10.20.24

I had such a great time at LI-Dog's Pooch-a-Palooza this summer, and I was so happy to be invited back by the group to photograph their Howl-o-ween party! The event was held again at the beautiful Pine Grove Inn in Patchogue. There were a lot of great vendors there, including Rachel the Dog Trainer for You, My Canine's Keeper, Collar Crush, and the sponsor for the prizes for winners of the costume contest, Who's Your Doggy Long Island. DJ Mike Kaplow was also there as usual providing great music for the event!

There were also some wonderful raffle baskets donated by a ton of locals and Long Island businesses. I was excited to meet the pup whose owners won my raffle basket, and I hope to hear from them soon to shoot his free session! Long Island Dog volunteers had set up some adorable photo booth scenes for pups and their owners to take photos in front of. They were also on hand to make some adorable paw print art for them, which came out so cute. There were games, a special menu from Pine Grove Inn, and a great demonstration from My Canines Keeper's Ebonie and her creatively tiger-striped pup Hades. The costumes that the dogs and owners showed up in for the costume contest were so creative! Thank you so much to Long Island Dog for having me, and especially Ginny, Peggy and Joann for putting on such a wonderful event for all the pups and their parents!

Photos from Nassau County SPCA's Dog Trunk or Treat Halloween Event 10.19.24

I was so happy to be asked to be at Nassau County SPCA's Diego's Trunk or Treat for dogs this year. This is a very important fundraising event for them to help take care of the county's animals. It was the second annual Halloween event for them and it was an amazing day for pups and their owners on the grounds of the beautiful Sands Point Preserve. There were so many families present and some truly incredible costumes. I was excited to be there photographing the event and happy to contribute a basket to their raffle. Chloe the adorable Brussels Griffon in a pickle costume is the one who went home with my basket, and I so look forward to her parents getting in touch to photograph a session for her!

Besides the excellent raffle baskets, there were local businesses and organizations there sponsoring the event and supporting with their car trunks stocked with treats for the pups who got to go around and fill their baskets. Andrea who spearheaded the event even sent me home with a bag of treats for my Gracey, which she was thrilled about! It made up for the fact that I came home smelling like a hundred other dogs!

There were also businesses there as vendors for attendees to spoil their pups. It's always good to see my peers in the Long Island pet industry. There are always regulars I see at the local events that have become my pals over the years and it was great to get to talk shop with them. I met some new friends and had a delicious lunch at Rosie's Grilled Cheese food truck. I also ran into plenty of past clients which is always wonderful, and met some pups who I've been following on Instagram for a while! It's like meeting dog royalty!

One of the most fun parts of the event was the Pup Pie eating contest. Every half hour or so, there was a new round of contestants who competed to finish a bowl of whipped cream and a biscuit first and the winner received a free Licki Mat. But of course, there were no losers because every pup got delicious whipped cream and even a medal for participating!

The costume contest was incredibly impressive. Scroll through the photos below to see the amazing effort people put into their pup's costumes. Some of the owners even joined in! My personal favorite was the dog dressed up as a spotted lantern fly. I told his owner he had the scariest costume there!

Halloween Pet Events this Weekend! 10.19.24 and 10.20.24

I'll be photographing two Halloween pet events this weekend! First on Saturday October 19th, I'll be at Diego's Trunk or Treat hosted by The Nassau County SPCA at the beautiful Sands Point Preserve from 12-3pm! There will be a costume contest, dog pie eating contest, raffles, pet vendors, activities and more. Admission is $25 per family ($10 per family for Sands Point Preserve members). I'll be walking around photographing the event (say hi if you see me in my Laura Pea Photography shirt!) and I also donated a basket to their raffle! Get tickets at:

The next day, Sunday the 20th, I'll be at Long Island Dog's Howl-o-Ween Party at Pine Grove Inn in Patchogue from 12-4pm. There will be pet vendors, raffles, games, a spooky photo booth, a costume contest, food, drinks and a paw print booth. Again, I'll be photographing the event and I have a basket in their raffle! Fall/Halloween Pet Photos at Pawcasso Westhampton Beach 10.13.24

I'll be at Pawcasso Art Studio & Pet Boutique for a "Falloween" Pet Photo Shoot! I'm so excited to collaborate with this awesome company. My dog Gracey has been obsessed with their amazing single-ingredient dog treats for so long and we've been talking about doing a photo shoot there for a while. I'll be there on Sunday, October 13th from 3pm-6pm with backdrops and props for a Fall or Halloween set up for owners to choose from. $55 includes your photo shoot, 3-5 digital photos emailed to you, a lick painting, doggy ice cream and a goodie bag! They'll also be donating a bag of their wonderful treats to a local shelter for every bag bought during the event! Thank you so much to Pawcasso for hosting this! I can't wait to see all the adorable pups for their close ups!

Celebrating 10 Years in Business

10 years ago today Laura Pea Photography officially opened for business. Even though I planned and researched for a full year before I started, I had very little idea what I was doing at first. I was the only one of my friends who owned their own creative business and I was desperately lonely for people who understood how utterly amazing and how unbelievably awful it could be. Over the years I’ve found community in groups like Rising Tide Society, 52Frames and Long Island Film Club that have helped me keep my love for small business and for photography alive.

10 years has come with its share of lean, hard times, sacrifice and struggle but I’m proud to have made it to this milestone, perhaps a little more cynical than the start, but also wiser and thicker-skinned.

I’m so thankful to every client that has contributed to my journey over the past 10 years. Thankful to every friend and family member who has passed my name along. Thankful to every business I’ve networked with that has hosted me for a photo event or invited me to collaborate with them.

The first newborn I photographed is middle school age now. The first dog I photographed has passed. I have clients that invite me back into their lives year after year and show me my photos on their walls that they still cherish so many years after I took them. It means the world to me. 10 years later, this is still the hardest and best thing I’ve ever done. I hope to be here doing it all in another 10 year’s time.
